The less "technical" side of Jessica...

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jessica brings a mid-western affability to the fast paced NYC work place.  She has a strong liberal arts education from Amherst College, where she learned the keen ability to approach situations from multiple vantage points, from “big picture” down to minute detail.  Later on, Jessica earned a  Masters in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in Strategic Operations.  This degree only added to her foundation and gave her the technical know-how to make complex and difficult operational decisions.

She started her career at Galison Books / Mudpuppy Press, a small gift card and toy company, where she held a multi-functional role in Customer Service, Order Fulfillment and Warehouse Management.  Here she was able to learn the full supply chain relationship, from overseas manufacturing to retail sales.

After completing her Master’s degree, she joined the financial publishing and event world of Institutional Investor, a Euromoney PLC company.  She started with a relatively small role as Business Manager for the magazine marketing group, managing day to day operations, budgeting, and reporting.  In 2000, she was selected to participate in Euromoney’s international Junior Executive program.  During the program, Jessica developed and launched a new publication business publication.  The accomplishment gained her company wide recognition and led to her promotion to Group Finance Manager of two key US businesses, II Newsletters and II Journals.  The role was challenging with more exposure to budgeting, cost accounting, benchmarking, analysis, and forecast modeling.

Wanting to get back to her joy of operational problem solving, Jessica changed positions to Director of Fulfillment Operations at SourceMedia (formerly Thomson Media), a larger, multi-media publishing firm,  This was an exciting move as it opened up a world of experience in different business models and product types.  In 2007, with increased business focus on digital products, Jessica was promoted to integrate and oversee operations for online sales and distribution channels.  In 2010, as SourceMedia restructured and all core functions were outsourced, Jessica led a 6-month multi-phased project to migrate all Order and Fulfillment operations to third party vendors.  Upon successful completion of the project, Jessica’s position was eliminated.

The change presented her with the opportunity to transition into the consulting world, where she led several successful projects for multiple clients.  This created a good sampling of new industries; including a boutique social media marketing firm, an international media advertising giant, real estate property management, and big data aggregation for a major bank.

Jessica’s reputation as a fixer of “extreme project messes,” landed her a very long term engagement at ALM (almost 4 years).  She was initially brought on board to resolve issues from an international fulfillment outsourcing project gone awry.  After successfully getting that project back on track, Jessica began taking on more and more complex projects at ALM.  She spearheaded the consolidation of multiple order / fulfillment systems onto a single platform serving the needs of all ALM businesses and products.  She was also a key leader in the offshore outsourcing of back office operations (finance / accounting, cash, order entry, fulfillment, and customer service).

Jessica continues to keep her professional skills sharp with continuing education courses in Project Management and Business Development.  She also indulges her personal interests with classes in interior design and architecture.  She recently completed her own large-scale project of gut renovating a pre-war apartment and is now busy outlining a digital smart plan for her home.  Outside of the office, Jessica enjoys international travel and is an enthusiastic member of many wine tasting clubs in NYC.  She is also the proud owner of a miniature pinscher and volunteers her time to animal rescue and adoption charities.
